Helping Hands Against Violence

Safety, stability, and compassionate support at a moment of crisis — emergency shelter and advocacy for survivors of domestic and sexual violence in Hood River.

Program Overview

Helping Hands makes a profound difference in the lives of survivors by offering safety, stability, and compassionate support at a moment of crisis.

30-day Emergency Shelter

The shelter provides a safe environment where survivors can escape physical danger, emotional abuse, and ongoing control — and gain the space to breathe, recover, and make decisions without fear. The shelter houses up to six families, each with their own room and 24/7 access to staff trained to respond to trauma with empathy and respect.

Emotional Support & Advocacy

Advocates help survivors process their experiences, rebuild self-esteem, and understand the dynamics of abuse. Whether or not survivors stay at the shelter, they receive help with essentials such as food, clothing, and guidance navigating legal systems — including restraining orders and custody arrangements.

Employment & Housing Support

Helping Hands advocates connect survivors with employment resources and help with housing searches — supporting the path back to long-term independence and stability.
